KWPN/KWPN-NA Predicates


Please note these definitions are meant to be a guide for the predicates that appear on the pedigrees on our website www.primaequestrian.com. For the most up to date and more detailed information, contact the registries at the websites as indicated below.

Ster, Star, or Model Stallions, Mares or Geldings
Awarded to approximately the top 30% of Mares & Geldings 3 years and older presented at keurings based on evaluation of free movement, conformation and optional free jumping. Stallions must be of especially high quality. The Star predicate does not indicate any kind of approval or licensing for a stallion.

Keur for Dutch Mares
Star mares that have passed a higher evaluation of conformation and movement in hand AND have received above 70 points on the IBOP riding test 40 points in either dressage or jumping. The mares may also complete the performance test in sport by achieving 1 score above 60% at Level 4 Test 1 (or Z + 1 point in the Netherlands) OR Jumping: 2 clear rounds over courses at least 46 in height (130 cm in the Netherlands) or Hunter: 2 wins in Open Hunter Division at AA or AAA shows or Combined training: Preliminary Level with a score of not more than 72.5 penalty points at two competitions.

Provisional Keur
The mare has been approved for Keur status for conformation and movement, but has not completed the Performance part of the requirement (IBOP or Sport).

Keur for Stallions
This prestigious predicate for stallions is awarded by the KWPN stallion commission indicating that the stallion is at least 7 years old and must have an index above 140 with 85% reliability and offspring performing at the GP level.

Sport
A predicate awarded to mares who compete successfully - 1 dressage score of 60% or better at Level 4 Test 2 OR 5 clear jumping rounds at least 46 in height (130cm in the Netherlands) OR 5 combined training events at preliminary level with a score of not more than 72.5 penalty points.

Elite
Keur mares which have passed the same veterinary x-ray exam required of KWPN stallions

Preferent for Mares
A predicate indicating a good producing mare awarded to any foalbook, studbook, auxiliary foalbook, auxiliary studbook, or thoroughbred mare which has produced three WPN foalbook registered offspring designated as Star (mares) or Star Quality (stallions and geldings), second ring stallion or approved stallion.

Preferent for Stallions
Awarded by the KWPN stallion committee to Keur Stallions that have achieved their own breeding line with approved sons.

Prestatie
A predicate given to any foalbook, studbook, auxiliary foalbook, auxiliary studbook, or thoroughbred mare which has produced three KWPN offspring which have achieved the equivalent of M + 5 sport levels in dressage (2nd/3rd), jumping (4'3") or 3-day event.

Crown
A performance predicate awarded to stallions, mares and geldings competing on an international level. To be considered, horses must be individually listed in the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (200 top-ranked dressage horses and 400 top-ranked jumping horses).

PROK
The new PROK (Project Radiographical Research KWPN Mares) predicate designates a studbook or star mare who has successfully completed radiographic requirements required of KWPN stallions.

IBOP/EPTM
Studbook or star mares successfully completing an IBOP or stationary performance (in Holland) test. Must have received above 70 points on the IBOP riding test 40 points in either dressage or jumping.

German Predicates (May vary for different German Studbooks)


States Premium States (SPS)

Mares outside of Germany are only able to achieve States Premium status. The term States Premium is connected to the State Government of the particular German Verband (ie Hanoverian, Oldenburg, Holsteiner, etc) Mares must undertake the tests to qualify in Germany to go to Rastede in June.

Hauptstutbuch
Main Stud Book Mares. Many of these mares have done their performance test and needed only to go to the final presentation for SPS status.


Hanoverian Predicates (AHS)


Elite

Mares that score 7 or more at the inspection for movement and conformation. And pass a mare performance test with an overall score of 7 or an 8 in riding, gaits or jumping with no score lower than 6 and produce a foal.

Premium
Awarded to mares who score above an average of 7.5 on external appearance. These mares are scored against the main mare base in Germany.

Holsteiner Predicates


Bezirkspramie (regional premium) - BP

The sum of the keuring points must be at least 47 points; the point for type has to be at least a 7, and no point can be a 3 or less.

Verbandspramie (association premium) - VP
The sum of the keuring points must be at least 52 points; the point for type has to be at least an 8, and no point can be a 4 or less.

Oldenburg Predicates


Premium

Mares must have achieved Premium mare candidate status and achieve their full title when they have one registered Oldenburg Society Foal.

Elite
Elite is awarded to mares that meet one of the following criteria:
  1. Mares that have been awarded the distinction of "Premium Mare" and have presented at least two foals, 50% of which were awarded premium.
  2. Mares which have attained success in competitive sport (at least three 1st to 3rd places in 3rd level or 3 higher places in higher tests and have presented at least 2 foals to the Oldenburg Verband of which 50% were awarded premium.
  3. Mares, 50% of whose daughters were awarded the Premium Candidate title, and/or 25% of whose male offspring were licensed. At least four offspring must be registered with the Oldenburg Verband.
  4. Mares, 50% of whose offspring have been successful in competitive sport with a requirement of three 1st to 3rd places in elementary (3rd level classes) or three places in higher tests. A total of at least 4 offspring must be registered with the Oldenburg Verband.

Mares which fulfill the conditions in 2 and 4 must have also received above average scores for their external appearance features. Mares which have already been awarded the Premium title generally fulfill these conditions.

Swedish Predicates

Premium B and AB mares

Registered Swedish mares and non Swedish mares of approved breeds 3 years and older that have at least 1 inspected registered Swedish foal receive either a Premium B or AB status. Diploma mares or mares with good performance records as sporthorses will be awarded Premium AB.

Premium A mares
Have a minimum of 5 foals. The combined score for the mare and her offspring must be at least 18 points and at least 3 of the offspring must reach the 3 point level or higher.

Premium Elite Mares
Premium A mares that have a minimum of 6 foals. The combined score for the mare and her offspring must be at least 26 points and at least 2 of the mares offspring must reach the 4 point level and a 3rd offspring must reach the 5 point level.

Point Gradings for Mares & Geldings
  1. Registered Swedish Warmblood
  2. Studbook keuring points 42-44 or placing at 1st level dressage or lower level eventing/jumping or Premium B studbook mare
  3. Studbook keuring points 45-46 or winning USDF Swedish All breed awards at Training or 1st Level Dressage (or winning Training or 1st Level Dressage with score of 60% or above) or Placing at 2nd Level Dressage
  4. Approved stallion or Premium AB mare with >= 47 points or USDF Swedish All Breeds Awards at 1st or 2nd Level Dressage
  5. Premium AB Mare, Winning USDF Swedish All Breed Award at 2nd Level Dressage or Placing at 3rd or 4th Level Dressage.
  6. Premium A Stallion or Premium Elite Mare or Placings and wins at FEI (CDI) Dressage levels.
  7. First place at PSG or higher level Dressage or placing at Intermediare II and Grand Prix Dressage.
  8. Premium Elite Stallion or First place at FEI (CDI) Intermediare II and Grand Prix Dressage.


Gradings for Swedish Mares, Geldings or Stallions at Keurings

Dressage Diploma

47 points or more with no single mark lower than 7 and gait scores over 7 and acceptable riding test.

Jumping Diploma
47 points or more with no single mark lower than 7 and jumping scores of at least 8 and acceptable riding test.

Class I 45 points or more with no single mark lower than 5
Class II 42-44 points with no single mark lower than 5
Class III 40-41 points
Class IV<40 points or when the horse received a partial score of <5 in any of the elements included in the final score

Diploma and Class I mares are highly recommended for breeding.


Swedish Stallion Classifications

CRB Stallions

A stallion that has completed his inspection presentation and approved to breed in North America. CRB stallions have 2 years to complete their performance requirements.

B Stallions
A stallion that is currently under examination who has good results from the performance test, but has not yet completed the individual testing.

AB Stallions
A stallion that has completed and passed the performance test in Sweden, or is approved based on his own performance, is normally approved for breeding for a 6 year period.

Elite Stallions
Elite stallions are those who have passed down excellent performance qualities to their offspring and have proven valuable in breeding and in sport. Several of the offspring have achieved satisfactory results at the FEI or Grand Prix level in at least one discipline.

A Swedish Stallions
Stallions that pass down good performance qualities to their offspring receive breeding classification A. For the quality evaluation, the BLUP index must exceed 130 in one discipline or 120 in total index. For Stallions 15 years and older special attention is paid to the offspring's competition results. The offspring shall be better than average and have placed in the finals in competitions for their particular age group or at the FEI or Grand Prix level in order to receive credit.

C Swedish Stallions
Stallions that have demonstrated low fertility, passed down serious defects or have weak offspring are removed from breeding.

V Swedish Stallions
Stallions that have not proven to pass on their genetic traits in a positive fashion and whose competition results are not sufficient to keep an AB license.They are also removed from breeding.

Kass (rejected) Swedish Stallions
Stallions that have passed on genetic defects or exterior weaknesses that are of importance form an animal welfare standpoint. Such a stallion may not be used for breeding.
